Services Overview

BEE stands for Bureau of Energy Efficiency and government agency which works under
the Ministry of Power.
The program provides information on the energy consumption of products and devices
using different standardized methods.
The Objectives of Standards & Labelling Program is to provide the consumer an informed
choice about the energy saving and thereby the cost saving potential of the marketed
household and other equipment. This is expected to impact the energy savings in the
medium and long run.
Star rating schemes allow us to compare the operating cost and environmental
performance of similar products.
Energy labels, on the other hand, are the informative labels affixed to manufactured
products in order to provide consumers with the data necessary for making informed
purchases.

Who Can Apply ?

This Licence is granted only to the Brand Owner who is going to sell particular product
in India Market with its Trademark.
Brand Owner Can be –
1. Trader
2. Domestic Manufacturers
3. Importer for Foreign Manufacturer

Prerequisites

Before filing your application, you must first identify whether you are qualified
for mandatory or voluntary BEE certification. Some items are required to be registered
under the mandatory product list of BEE, while others are on the voluntary product list.

Note – Separate applications shall be submitted for each product per Indian
standard . However multiple models can be approved under one product with same
credential.

DURATION – Average time taken for grant of license is 25-30 Days. It may vary for
reasons like delay in response to queries raised, if any.

Documentation Required for Brand Registration

Company Registration Certificate
GST Certificate
Certificate of Trademarks (In the Name of the Brand Owner with appropriate class &
product name)
Quality Management System Certificate (valid ISO 9001 certificate with product name
mentioned in the scope).
SSI /MSME certificate (If Small Scale Industry and applying for the first time).
Authorized Signatory Letter ( In the Prescribed Format ).
Authorized Signatory KYC & Other Details.
List of Retailers.
Agreement between BEE & User of Label on Rs.100 Non-Judicial Stamp Paper ( For
Voluntary products only. Not applicable for mandatory products ).
BIS License ( if BIS applicable ).
Manufacturing Facility – KYC & Other Details & ISO 9001 Certificates (valid ISO 9001
certificate with product name mentioned in the scope).

STEP 1: BRAND/COMPANY REGISTRATION

To register a BRAND with BEE, follow the procedures below:

Documentation – Gather all documents and details as per mentioned checklist and
ensure all documents are duly signed and stamped by trader.
Submit application – Post compiling the documents, the application must be submitted
on BEE Portal.
Fee Payment – Pay fees for brand registration as per BEE.
Scrutiny of Documents – Scrutiny of application will be done by BEE officials to ensure
that documents submitted are correct and in the specified order or not. Any Query raised
by BEE should be reverted on BEE portal by the applicant.
Grant of Login Credential – Once BEE Officials get satisfied with the provided
document and application, they provide BEE Login Credentials by email. On approval of
Brand / Company Registration, BEE will activate the link for model registration.

STEP 2: PRODUCT TESTING

BEE Registration begins with the testing of a sample to determine the rate of energy
consumption. At the time of MODEL Registration, the test report will be required. Applicant
needs to send the sample(s) and technical documentation to a NABL-accredited lab for
testing and receive the results.

Two types of testing are done, which are as follows:

Performance Testing : All items covered by the BEE are subjected to performance
testing. It aids in depicting the product’s performance, and a star rating is assigned as a
result.
Safety Testing : The samples covered by BEE and BIS are subjected to safety testing.
This test is used to determine whether the product is consumer-friendly or not.

STEP 3: MODEL REGISTRATION

For model registration, the following steps are followed:

Documentation: Gather all relevant documents ( Test Reports and Annexure ) and
upload them on the BEE portal.
BEE Sample Label preparation: Create Sample label as per Annexure and Test Report
Model Registration Application: Applicant have to apply for Model Registration on
BEE portal. Applicant has to provide clarification or additional information, if any query
raised by BEE.
Scrutiny of Application: BEE officials will examine the application, test report and
documents. If the document presented are not in order, not properly filed, are loose or
clipped, or are just stapled will be rejected.
Grant of Approval: BEE officials approve if they are satisfied with the application,
documentation, and sample test report. When BEE is satisfied, it approves the
application and gives authority to attach the label.

Fee Structure & Other Expenses to be paid by Manufacturer –

Validity & Renewal of License

Validity & Renewal of Products is as per BEE Schedule for the. particular product.
Validity is mentioned in the STARLABEL.
Renewal to be applied 3 months before Expiry of Validity.
Renewal Charges are Rs. 2000 /- per Model.
